While I was away on a trip for a couple of weeks, I had to deal with a somewhat difficult person traveling with me…which put me in a mood where I couldn’t access anything worthwhile to write. Who wants to hear about how this other person who went with me to India and then the Czech Republic…was kind of driving me crazy? I didn’t.I had my moments where I met wonderful people, saw incredible beauty, allowed two magnificent tusked elephants walking down the road toward me in Bandipur to literally take my breath away…but, right after that…she was back in my face. Irritating on multiple levels, she was getting in the way of my fully being able to let loose and enjoy myself.
Perhaps you’ve figured out by now that “she”, was of course, me—and wherever I went…there I was. Constantly on my own case, I noticed that if I could only get out of my way, I might enjoy so much more. If only it were that simple. What was going on? Or, better yet…what did I learn from this?

One of my clients had a busy professional life. You know the drill. She worked all the time and never had an opportunity to meet the special someone she could share a movie or a dinner or an evening out with. Of course…she didn’t DO anything about it either. We started out with getting her some new habits around exercise and de-cluttering and taking some important breaks for herself. Finally, she decided it was not only time to RE-decorate her living space…it was time to DECORATE for the first time ever. She began to realize that she had been on such a fast track to whatever…she had never stopped to really make her home…well…a home. She had used it to study, open her mail, take messages, sleep, do laundry, and run out the door. Maybe it was time to actually turn it into a haven; a comforting place to be; a welcoming retreat she looked forward to nestling into. She hired a decorator.

The analogy of sports to life keeps me riveted to a lot of the college and professional games. Whether it’s football, baseball, basketball, or track—I’m not school or geography specific—I’m captured. What pulls me in is the “behind the scenes” facts that make up the real story.Do You Choose People Who Are…Unavailable?

If you do, this is an issue that will keep you emotionally tied in knots and wondering what is wrong with you…or the other person…or the world at large. What does an “unavailable” person look like? They have some detectable problems that are the ones that keep them from really being with you… like:More Articles...
